In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Bare had a close association with the Werekena. Together, they were put in a state of virtual slavery by Spanish and Portuguese authorities and merchants. They moved to river headwaters to escape the Europeans. Today, the Bare of Venezuela live in the Amazonas state, the country’s state with the highest proportion of indigenous people. They live along or near the River Casiquiare. Bare also live in Brazil and Colombia.
The Bare people farm, hunt, fish and gather food. They extract and sell piassava fiber, which provides income to buy goods from traders.
The Bare practice a combination of Catholic traditions with local animistic rituals.
The Bare need to center their lives around the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. They need to put all trust in Christ alone.
Pray for a spiritual hunger for true righteousness that will lead them to Jesus Christ.
Pray that they will find true freedom found only in Christ.
Pray for the Lord to bless the Bare people economically and spiritually as a testimony of his goodness and power.
