Introduction

The Kanuri tribes consist of the Yerwa Kanuri, the Manga Kanuri, and several other sub-tribes who mainly live in northeastern Nigeria. Some also live in Niger, Chad and Sudan. Most Kanuri farm and those who own horses gain prestige. Yerwa Kanuri in cities work in government, public service, construction, transportation and commerce. The Yerwa Kanuri who work in politics or religion have a high social status. Blacksmiths, well-diggers or butchers have a low social status. Their marriages and families need help in staying together, help that only the indwelling of the Holy Spirit can solve.

Ministry Obstacles

The Kanuri have been Muslims since the eleventh century, and they are dedicated to the Islamic religious system. As far as we know, Niger has no Yerwa Kanuri Christ followers.
