They speak Nyakyusa-Ngonde and live mainly in Tanzania. There is also a good population of them in Malawi. Their ancestry traces back to a Nubian queen named Nyanseba. They lived near trade routes, making them vulnerable to slave raiders.
Nyakyusa communities are predominantly agricultural, and they receive ample rainfall. Their homes are made of mud bricks, with thatched roofs. They grow peanuts, corn, and cassava. They raise farm animals for their meat and fish. Some grow tea or coffee as cash crops.
The Nyakyusas have a strong Church. God can use them to reach gospel starved parts of Africa.
Men go to cities to work, leaving farm work to the women and children. There are several dysfunctions that occur in families when the father is away.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out many Nyakyusas to reach Muslims in Africa.
Pray for them to put Jesus first in all matters.
Pray for the Lord to give them a record-high crop this year as a testimony of his power and goodness.
