Spaniards are the native people living in Spain. Most are Catholics, though many now do not go to church and secularism is increasing in Spain as in other west European countries.

Regionalism is important to many Spaniards. Castilian is the main language of Spain and is spoken in the capital Madrid and elsewhere. Catalan is spoken in Barcelona which is the second largest city in Spain after Madrid. It is spoken in Catalonia. It is also the main language in the small country of Andorra. The Basque people speak Basque which is a unique language unlike any other language of the world. Bilbao is the main city in the Basque region. Galician is spoken in Galicia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Spain is famous for its paintings, architecture, and literature. Spanish cinema has been a big success. Flamenco dancing is well-liked. Football (soccer) is the favorite sport among Spaniards, and they have some of the best professional players in the world. Bull fighting is traditionally popular in Spain.

Education in Spain is free for children from six to sixteen years old. The Spaniards enjoy celebrating several festivals. Partys are very important to them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Spaniards are Roman Catholic, but many are secular by practice. They get married and buried in a Catholic Church, but their daily lives are not affected by the ways of Christ.

What Are Their Needs?

Materialism is a spiritual stronghold. Their attitude towards the gospel is, “I have money, a home, food, and everything I need, why should I believe the gospel? Many reject the gospel; some are hostile towards it.

Pray that their eyes may be opened to see their spiritual reality and be delivered from materialism.
Pray that nominal Catholics in Spain will see the need to make a meaningful decision to follow Christ rather than an institution.
Pray for many to recognize Jesus for who he is and turn to him for answers.
Pray that God will give guidance regards evangelizing Spaniards, in a way that is relevant to the Spanish people.
