Introduction / History

Ao is one of the Naga tribes of northeastern India. Their language, Ao, defines them.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Though many are still engaged in agriculture, it’s becoming more common for the Aos to earn their living through government jobs, education, and business. Others make a living in the tourist industry.

They still have arranged marriages, especially in rural settings.

What Are Their Beliefs?

After Christianity was introduced in the late 1800s, most adopted faith in Christ. As time has passed, there is still faith, but it has eroded. They still identify as Christian.

What Are Their Needs?

Though the Aos have surpassed most Naga tribes economically, they still need better educational facilities and medical care. That is especially true for those living in rural areas.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to provide them with the education they need to navigate the changes of the 21st century.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to do mighty works in Ao churches and families, spurring them on to love and good works.
Pray for their churches to send missionaries to Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists.
