Galongs (A.K.A. Galos) live in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. They speak Galo Adi.
Once a Galong girl is brought to the boy’s family home, she is recognized as his wife. There is a simple ceremony involving the sacrifice of a hen and a feast. He gives his wife expensive beads and one of the feathers from the sacrificed hen. She wears the hen feather in her hair to indicate she is married. Later, there is a bigger three-day marriage ceremony. The man can divorce his wife, but he must pay a fee, and she retains the costly beads and plates given to her by her parents.
Galongs have their own traditional religion, but Christianity is making inroads into their communities, as it has with many others in northeastern India.
Galongs live in a part of India that borders China, specifically occupied Tibet. They need the gospel to penetrate their families, but they also need to take Christ to nearby peoples who have no chance to hear of the only Savior.
Pray for thousands of Galongs to soon commit to following Jesus Christ.
Pray for the Lord to perform abundant miracles among the Galongs, demonstrating his power and goodness.
Pray for the Lord to call many to become Christ’s ambassadors to Tibetan Buddhists.
