Introduction

The Hindu Vannan live in India’s southern states. They do not own land. Traditionally they washed clothes for a living. They prefer to marry within their community, often marrying cousins. Family elders arrange marriages through discussions. Elders can allow a divorce, and each party is free to remarry. After the death of the father, the sons share the property, and the oldest son takes charge of the family estate. They practice Hinduism, a catch-all phrase of the local religions of South Asia, so it is very diverse. At the popular level, Hindus visit temples and offer prayers, food, flowers and incense to their gods in hopes of gaining protection and benefits. They do not have a personal relationship with their gods.

Ministry Obstacles

Since only about one in a thousand Vannan follow the Lord, few can see living Christianity in action from their community.

Outreach Ideas

Pray for the Followers of Christ

Pray for the Entire People Group

Pray that the leaders of the caste councils will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Vannan to him.
Pray for spiritual hunger and discernment.
Pray for Holy Spirit to send workers to take Christ to the Vannan.
There is an abundance of Christ followers who speak Tamil, the Vannan primary language. Pray for many to take up the call to reach the Vannan community for Christ.
