Taita is a group in Kenya and Tanzania that has three subgroups, one of which is Dabida. The Taita language not only has three dialects, but it is constantly changing as it’s affected by the languages of neighboring tribes.
Traditionally, they practiced polygamy, where a man could have multiple wives. Marriages were pre-arranged by families. It involved a dowry of cattle. When they decided the girl was old enough for marriage, she would be “kidnapped” by her groom’s family when she went in the evening to fetch water.
Most of these resilient people are subsistence farmers. Some have livestock.
Dabida Taitas are predominantly Christian, with a sizable Evangelical population. Though traditional religion still holds many back, they are highly reached, and ready to be used by God as an evangelistic force.
Dabida Taitas need to prepare people in their churches to go as Christ’s ambassadors. They can take the Perspectives class in Rwanda, where it is offered.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower and send out Dabida Taitas to reach the lost in places where Christ is not yet known.
Pray for the Lord to bless them abundantly with a huge crop this year as a testimony of his power and goodness.
Pray for God to raise up faithful intercessors and those who will financially support their own workers.
